I thought the world would like to know that Tony Howard managed to get the
SLR (chassis number SLR1 they think) on the track at Silverstone for the
all comers race in the Bentley Drivers club meeting on 9th August; the first
time out for 10 years. This meeting is a key day in the UK Morgan Calendar.
The car went well in practice on the Friday, but bent a couple of pushrods
late in the day. This made it doubtful for the race. A couple of spares
were found which were close, but not the correct fit and Tony managed a
quick blast to qualify on the Saturday Morning. He nursed it round in the
race itself and completed the race. It was important that he finish as he
needed to maintain his licence, otherwise he may not have raced it!!
Tony's view is that had he been able to run it properly it would easily have
won its class. He plans to be at Silverstone again later this month, this
time on the International circuit, assuming he gets it rebuilt again in
time. If not he will use his own Moss Box Plus 8.
