Well, I know of a professional mechanic that had a chrome socket blow up on
him when using an impact, and do permanent tendon damage from the shrapnel.

Required by who? Sears replaces the broken non-impact sockets I bring
them with no questions asked. I rarely break one, though. It may be
that my impact wrench can never generate enough torque and force to
break them.
