It can, but it's irrelevant. A coil is either a 12v coil or a 6v coil. 12v
coils measure about 3 ohms across the primary (2.4 ohms for a Lucas Sport
coil I have) and a 6v coil measures about 1.5 ohms. A 12v coil can be all winding, 3 ohms worth, or it can be basically a 6v coil i.e. 1.5 ohms of winding *plus* an internal (i.e. inside the can) ballast of another 1.5 ohms. But like I say as far as the rest of the ignition goes the two types of 12v coil are treated exactly the same.
