The wires from the alternator go to the solenoid, so pass through the main
harness between those two points. There are quite a lot of wires in the
harness between where the alternator tail joins it and where the solenoid
tail leaves it, and as he seems to have got to the point where an
extinguisher was needed and copper is visible probably anything the
alternator wire was in contact with will have been badly damaged. I'd go
for a new main harness anyway, simply for peace of mind.
