Who would have thought RCA Victor would be German, or
RCA's electronics division French? Who'd have thought
Chrysler would be German? 20th Century Fox, Australian?
Zenith, Korean? Westinghouse Electric, Swedish? Western
Electric (now Lucent), French? In a free economy things
change hands. Culturally it can be regrettable, but the
alternative is economic stagnation and entropy.

The UK government doesn't own it, does it? Should they
confiscate it? Nationalize it? That worked really well
for British Leyland, didn't it?

How is that better than what's being done now? At least
these cars trace their lineage to the British MG company.
Why would I want a phony-MG-Miata when I could have a
real Miata for probably less money? I could stick my
own MG badges on it and still save money. :-)

Well, the car business isn't a charity. There's all kinds
of blame to go around. Meddling government, greedy unions,
inept management, etc. It's a shame that MG is no longer
going to be based in the UK. It's starting to sound, in
fact, like it's going to be *based* in the US. But at least
it's alive as an international corporation. That's much
better than a lot of the BL marques have fared. (In fact,
the last corporate vestige of British Leyland, Leyland
Trucks, is now American owned. Pacific Car and Foundry here
in the Puget Sound area bought it from the receivers a
few years ago.)
