Hi Roger,
Sorry about the damage to your car.  I've never had anything like that 
happen to a car.  It's one thing to have someone hit my car when its parked 
then discover the damage, but at least I would know it wasn't 
deliberate.  I've had that happen many times.  On the positive side, MGs 
are collectable cars so you can (in most cases) get compensated adequately 
by insurance.  Where I've been vulnerable on car claims is driving old 
Japanese cars that are in really good shape with low miles that have been 
clobbered by SUVs.  Old Japanese cars are treated by insurance as 
appliances.  The comps they use are typical cars (high miles and damaged 
and much repairs needed) so the insurance wants to pay me about 1/2 what 
they're worth, or 1/2 what it would take to find a car anything similar to 
the one that was ruined.
It is sadly true that that "The more you got, the more you got to lose."
