Scott,

I had a similar mysterious intermittent inability to start the car that I
eventually traced, after replacing and testing numerous other things, to the
little metal tabs that keep the ignition switch in placed.   These are not
very
robust and can be slowly opened by repeated use of the switch.   They are easy
to access with the cowl off of the steering wheel.   Try pressing them down
very firmly.
It worked for me.
