switch removal questions

I'm replacing the yellow and faded plastic chrome trim around the switches
on my 70 B and I'm having a very difficult time with the retaining springs
holding the switch in from the rear. Is there a trick or easy way to remove
the spring and the switch from the dash?  Thanks for the help
