It was only to satisfy the US market that Lotus ever started fitting
these heavy-weight accessories - the Elise originally had nothing, no
carpet, no electric windows, no electric roof mechanism, no power
steering, no brake assistance, and certainly no air conditioning. I
think it did have a fairly basic radio, and a decent heater, but that
was it. A car built without compromise!
