I assume we are talking about the GT luggage compartment light here. There
should be a purple always-on fused 12v supply to the bulb. You should have
a purple/white which is the switched ground from the hatch switches going to
the other side of the bulb. There is also a ground feed from a mounting
screw to one side of the manual switch on the light unit, the other side of
the switch going to the same side of the bulb as the purple/white, so that a
ground from *either* the manual switch or the hatch switch will light the
bulb. If the purple is disconnected or the fuse blown (bottom one on the
4-way fuseblock) which could well have happened if it was pulled out of a
connector and touched bare metal, the bulb won't light at all (and neither
will the courtesy light or horns).
If the purple/black is soldered to the light fitting on one side of the
bulb, and the other side of the bulb has the purple soldered to it, then
connect the purple/black from the light unit to the purple/white of the cars
wiring, and the purple to the purple. If you connect these the other way
round and operate the manual switch you will blow the fuse.
