At least he's still alive...
There is an oft-told story here in Silicon Valley about the entrepeneur who
cashed in his IPO and went straight from the celebration to Ferrari of Los
Gatos, bought a new mid-engined Ferrari, and took off up Highway 9 (an
extremely twisty 2-lane road beginning in downtown Los Gatos heading up into
the Santa Cruz Mountains).
I don't know if this guy even made it 9 miles (the first hairpin turn/narrow
bridge combination is within 2 miles). At any rate, the story goes that he
spun off the road and was killed (totalling the car, of course).
This one is so obvious as a morality tale that one is tempted to think it is
an urban legend. But everyone around here believes it's true, for what it's
worth.
