Finally sorted my brake problem!!! As I suggested it might be earlier,
it was trapped air in the servo. I know now why MG didn't fit the servo
the other way up to start with - it doesn't fit!
So, for the future benefit of anyone with a remote brake servo, if you
ever get air into the brake system upstream of the servo (e.g. pumping
the M/C dry while trying to bleed!), you need to do the following:
Remove the servo from its support brackets, and turn it round, so the
air valve is near the bottom, and the cylinder is pointing up at 30deg
rather than horizontal - leaving the brake lines connected, and bending
them gently as necessary. It may be necessary to disconnect the vacuum
line. Bleed as normal - tap the servo to release any air bubbles
clinging to the surface. Turn the servo back to its original
orientation and re-fit.
WHY DOESN'T IT TELL YOU THIS IN THE MANUAL???
Anyway, it's all booked in for an MOT, the first in about 12 years, so
fingers crossed...
