Hmm, all I can say is, get skinnier hands (you have any kids?). In a Mark I
you can remove the tunnel top cover, which makes it a cinch.
I suppose you could unbolt the transmission support and lower it somewhat to
make more space in the tunnel. Or it might conceivably be accessible from
the shifter hole, after removing the shifter.
