Retarding or using higher octane is probably the only way. I tried an
octane booster in the past but could tell no difference. I've had to retard
in the past when I was touring in Scotland (a bit hillier than home) but
unable to get the higher octane I usually use, but the loss of power was
very noticeable as was the higher running temps on the gauge. Did stop the
pinking though, which isn't a good thing except momentarily.
