Actually, I don't know anything about this car in particular, but I once
bought a Rabbit with a "bad clutch", and not only was it a PITA to replace
(FWD -- yuk), it started acting up again within 1000 miles. From what I have
heard, these Jettas have a bad rep for chronic problems. Or look at it this
way: what makes you think you're a better mechanic than the VW specialist
who told this owner to auction it off?
I admit this is not my area of expertise, but I smell a "lemon dump"...
