Just to clear up some confusion about who owns which brands:
The Rover brand is owned by BMW, but was on indefinite free loan to MG
Rover. SAIC (the Chinese company MG Rover were trying to do a deal with,
and who have been sold the rights to the Rover 25 and 75) seemed to be under
the impression for a while that they had been sold the Rover name too, but I
suspect they are wrong.
BMW also retained the Triumph and Riley brands after they sold the company.
All the rest of the brands, including MG (and Austin, Austin Healey,
Wolesey, Morris, Standard) belonged to MG Rover, and now presumably can be
sold off by PWC as part of the assets of the failed company.
Oh, and of course the Land Rover brand belongs to Ford now.
