The loom ballast is bypassed on all rubber bumper cars during cranking, the
additional resistor for the 45DE4 system isn't.
The three wires to the distributor are from the coil -ve (as you say) which
also goes to the tach, from 12v via the additional resistor, and from 12v
directly.
