I have purchased a used O/D transmission for my 1979 B and have done the
basic checks before installing it. One step was to set the transmission,
bell housing down, on the bench and remove the O/D section to replace the
gasket and generally have a look see. What a dumb move. Fortunately I did
not disassemble the O/D. After some time crawling on the floor looking for
the little ball that holds the cam that drives the pump I knew I was in
trouble. Everything looks good, the pump, pilot valve, solenoid, etc. Now to
put it back on the transmission. I cannot get it to slide onto the shaft the
last 3/4 of an inch. I have aligned the female splines in the O/D, tapped
with a small hammer, removed it, had a beer, tried again for many hours now
and I am totally frustrated. Each time I can get it to slide without force,
to within that last 3/4 of an inch. I have a 12 pound sledge but I don't
think that is the correct approach. HELP!!!!
