Preston:

The word from someone who has installed and used most of the available
conversion kits, and whose job is to talk up the merits of them.

Stick with the original front lever shocks!

A well engineered tube shock conversion with high quality adjustable
shocks will make a positive improvement to ride quality and handling.
But the cost compared to improvement will only appeal to those pushing
the edge of the original handling abilities of the car (or loonies like
me).

There are currently no cheap tube shock conversions on the market that I
would recommend as value for money.

My suggestion is to buy new front Armstrong shocks, as they are still
available, priced reasonably and will last for a very long time.

Installing them is a simple job, with removal of the frozen upper
trunnion bolts being the most likely difficulty. Purchase new bolts,
nuts and upper bushings when you get the shocks. Have some kind of heat
source such as a propane torch available to help in persuading the bolts
which tend to rust to the upper bush sleeves.

I think I may have to replace my front shocks on my 80 MGB LE.

Does anyone have any experience with the replacement packages based on
tube
shocks (not coil over)? I will welcome positive and negative comments,
an
idea where I might source these packages, and your thoughts if a
slightly
experienced hobbyist (I did replace all of the bushings on my own) can
do
the job

Thanks
Preston
