auto polish

Can you use the polymer based car polish (i.e. "wax") over a wax coat, or
does the wax need removed first? I read somewhere that Dawn dishwashing
detergent will strip the wax off a car.

Does the polishing clay that removes overspray also remove the clear coat on
a car? I already have a few blemishes in the new paint job and I thought I'd
use the clay to remove them before I use the polymer car "wax".
