jumpy tach

My electronic tach has become jumpy and slow to respond, it does not go above
~2500rpm.  I recently changed the points and condensor and cannot remember if
the tach problem began at this time.  Dwell was set with a meter and timing is
correct.  Is the tach going south or could the points be the cause?
