The Leyland Workshop Manual states that the gearbox and OD oil (they share it)
should be changed at 24,000 miles intervals, and if you have OD you clean the
filters while there is no oil in it! Only 'check/top-up' is mentioned for the
rear axle.
However checking of gearbox and axle levels should be carried out at 6,000
miles 6 month intervals and engine, brakes, clutch and radiator more
frequently than that, not 'every few years'.

Subject: maintainance question diff and tranny lubricant
Is it necessary to change the lubricant in the differential or in the
transmission, ever? Mine has never leaked. Neither the tranny nor
differential has never been removed. I drive the car a few thousand miles
each year.
