Hardly. The red light is the ignition warning or charge failure light. A
1968 model year car should have an alternator but originally it would have
been one with an external voltage regulator. Before that (i.e. it could be
a late registered 67 model) it would have had a dynamo, after that the
alternator with integral regulator. Flashing on and off either indicates a
bad connection somewhere or worn brushes in the alt or dynamo.
Rough running is almost certainly going to be something completely
different, and I wouldn't mind betting it is to do with the change from the
very good twin SUs to the Weber. Nevertheless you should make sure
everything is correct with the ignition - correct plug gaps, points
gap/dwell, timing, and sound plugs, leads, cap and rotor before 'playing'
with the carb.
