I'm not sure about the newer Bs, but the rubber sill mats were standard
through the early 70s. Certainly not a cost reduction by BL as they are
rather pricey, even now.

Those mats would be specialized and perhaps even molded. If MG was
planning on another 100,000 car run like the MGA, the rubber mats would
have been cheaper as the set up cost would be amoritized over 100,000
cars. But, today the parts houses aren't going to produce anything like
100,000 sets. So, using the same carpet material as on the floors would
be cheaper. Hence carpet is less than the specialized rubber.
