I concur with Rich. Also, the wire wheel's unusual "nut", whether octagonal or eared, is itself a theft deterrent device. A few younger safety inspectors have been perplexed at how my car's wheels are supposed to come off. I have ended up taking it off for a few of them (which is preferable anyway).
