Gents, I have a problem that I'm pretty sure is easily diagnosed, but I'd
like confirmation. This is on a 71BGT with rostyles
Above roughly 65mph I get a shimmy in the front end. I can say that it is
not affected by the quality of the road surface or by the location of the
wheels on the car. I have rotated them and it has no effect, so bump steer
and bent wheels are out. I have found however that it is significantly
reduced by putting light pressure on the brakes while travelling down the
road. I haven't done that for too long because I don't want to burn up the
brakes but it does work for 5-10 seconds at a time. Also I have a clunk in
the front end that happens when I turn the wheels to full lock in either
direction. As I am turning, it clunks when I get within 1/4 turn of full
lock either direction. All of the bushings are new polys, shocks are newish
spax, and kingpins should be good as they seemed to show no looseness when I
installed them. These factors seem to imply that my wheel bearings are
loose, right?
