Reading this brought back memories of my 1980 Subaru with solid lifters.
Whenever there was a tune-up and valve adjustment, the general consensus was
to always have the heads re-torqued. Some people had the heads re-torqued
at every other oil change. The reason was supposedly to avoid a "known"
problem with head gaskets that blow apparently because of loose heads. I
believe that the heads were aluminum (can't recall if the block was Fe or Al).
