The 79 is FINALLY out (21 weeks) of the paint shop and looks great
(Carmine)! Both "cracks of doom were reinforced, new lower panels were
welded in place, both on the front fenders and the doglegs. No bondo on the
car except to fill very small dings here and there. Doors, hood, and trunk
all aligned. Now comes refitting all the "stuff" back onto the bare body.
I'll put up some pics as soon as it's finished.
The body man was supposed to put the chrome strips on with new clips and
rivets but said that his 1/8" aluminum rivets would not fit into the holes
in the back plates. Anyone else encountered this? Are there smaller rivets
for this, or another way to affix them? Since I'm going to have to do this
myself and have never handled a rivet gun, could some of you please give me
some advise so I don't mess up my long-awaited paint job? I have a cheap
rivet gun that handles several sized rivets.
Thanks,
Monte
