Carb adjustment '66 MGB

I looked at the spark plugs the other day and noticed that the two center 
ones were very black while the end ones were closer to tan.  I don't 
understand how that could be a carb mixture problem. Is it possible that an 
air leak at the intake gasket could produce such uniform results at the 
extreme ends?
