I'm sure I am opening a can of worms here, but what's wrong with rubber for
this seal?
My car had the tattered and fragmented remains of what was apparently once a
rubber seal there (looked original, but who knows). I used the bits and
pieces as a template to cut a new seal out of an old innertube - worked just
fine and keeps the housing from rubbing or rattling around.
FWIW I made a seal for the lens the same way - except there was no seal
there whatsoever on my car.

and a BFH (Big F****** Hammer)
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
If it moves and it shouldn't, use the tape.
If it doesn't work, hit it with the hammer.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.
