Hi,
i'm a very poor excuse for a mechanic..
last touring season (mine is a warm sunshine only car) every once in a great
while it would miss.....maybe while driving it would just suddenly skip a beat,
maybe two and then purr on..
i put in new plugs, new points, new condenser, new coil, new wires and set the
dwell and timing as best i could to spot on..
it was running pretty good, but still once in maybe 20 minutes or so, it would
just
drop a beat..
last week the weather was fine for a top down tour and it cranked
easily....idled
smoothly...and accelerated smoothly (i have very light foot during warm up)...
after gingerly allowing her to warm and loosen up and while cruising at about
60
in 4th gear i dropped down to 3rd punched the throttle--it was horrible...
no coughs or backfire, but just missing like the dickens and the tach gyrating
wildly up and down...
drop the throttle back to a cruise position and it smoothed out...goose it a
little
and it misses LOTS of beats..
i don't have "Sun" machine to do the analysis i think i need, and i don't wanna
go
out and buy all new parts again--i figure it is an adjustment needed...or
something somewhere not grounding right, or all the time...or maybe the carbs
need help...
where should i start?
oh...i don't how i let it happen but i put her away last fall without a full
tank of fuel
(might it be water?....i tend to wonder if the tach jitters indicates an
ignition/electrical problem..)
thanks in advance,
