BMW opinion is said to be that an engine that has covered at least 40k on
leaded without new valves or recut seats has enough 'lead memory' (lead
leached into the valves and seats) to last its 'normal service life'. Even
without that recession is only likely to be a problem if you regularly drive
the car at high speeds and with large throttle openings. If you can't
easily get a additive locally for peace of mind just go without and keep an
eye on the valve clearances. You'll not need to check any more often than
the normal service intervals.
