Carl sent me this information about a direct fit BMC diesel into an MGB. I'm
going to research this, as this looks perfect.

Met a fellow in Abingdon at the MG Car Club's Works Centre's annual show in
Aug. 2000 who had istalled a diesel engine in his chrome bumper BGT. The
engine was out of one of a BMC commercial vehicle, and was DIRECT
interchange with the B's original engine. He used the B's original engine
mounts, tranny, linkages, clutch, exhaust system, etc. It was a really
sanitary installation, and looked as though the diesel had been there when
it left the factory!! As I now recall, he claimed to be getting over 35
mpg, cruising at 70+.
