Hi All I have a 70 1275 Midget with the standard 4.22:1 rear diff that is
pretty ( no very ) noisy (worn) . I am looking to replace the Crown Wheel
and Pinion with a 3.9:1 or 3.7:1 set from Victoria British which is
currently on special for $229+S+H. Looking at the Haynes Manual gives no
indication of how to do this .
How dificult is it to do ? Any special tools required ? I am reasonably
mechanical proficient ( converted from wires to steel , changed Cams in my
Buell ) , can sweat a copper pipe , you get the idea.
If it is too much bother, is there any recommendations on using different
oils in the diff to quite it down. I just use 20W50 per the manual
I just use the car for country lane tooling ( around 55-70 ) but have to run
on the freeway too, so I would like to drop the revs a bit from 4500 for 70
(4.22) to 3933 (3.7) or 4100 (3.9).
ANy thought would be much appreciated
Cheers
Justin
