Folks. After selling the Minotaur "Minilite" replica wheels for many years,
I've run across a number of possible problems. I created this e-mail for
in-house distribution at Moss Motors, but figured since most of the
information was applicable to MGs that it may be a good idea to post it to
the group too.

It is not intended as a sales or advertising blurb, so I hope it is not out
of place.

 "Minilite" Replica Wheel Fitment Information

I dont' think that all the wheel fitment problems have been condensed into
one information sheet, so here it is.

The "Minilite" replica wheels we sell are a very good product. They have
the correct offset and clearance to fit most applications and allow the use
of wider tires. Because the wheels are thicker than the original steel
wheels there are some areas that we have run into problems and you should be
aware of them.

456-045 15" X 5.5" Wheel. Suggested fitment MGB +1 and MGA

1. MGB +1 fitment: It may be impossible to install the hub cap on some
applications. There may not be enough clearance for the supplied cap
between the center of the wheel and hub. We have a slightly different hub
cap which may solve this problem under #455-368 which is plastic rather than
alloy.

2. MGA with drum front brakes: The center hole in the wheel may not clear
the drum brake center boss. The center can be ground for clearance, or a
wheel spacer used. (see below) A note on the web site has been added.

455-386 14" X 5.5" Wheel. Suggested fitment MGB

1. Early steel wheel lugnuts cannot be used, their OD is too large. Use
Rostyle wheel nuts only.

2. Clearance problems with some tie rod ends. The OD of some non-stock tie
rod ends is large enough rub against the inside of the wheel. Suggest
replacing the tie rod ends, or installing a wheel spacer. (see below)

3. Clearance problems between the wheel center and some front or rear hubs.
Typically this problem is on mid 70s MGBs only. The hub castings are off
center and the wheel will not fully seat. This is a problem with the car,
not the wheels. MG discovered the problem in 1977 and started to machine
the hub centers to allow the use of stock alloy wheels. Suggest the hubs be
machined to correct specification. Alternatively the ID of the wheel center
can be ground slightly to clear.

456-055 15" X 5.5" Wheel Suggested fitment TR2-6

This wheel is similar to the 456-045 wheel. It has a thicker center to
space the wheel out to clear the TR front brake calipers. Shouldered lug
nuts have to be used to grip enough of the lug stud threads. Note, these
wheels can also be used on MGA, but will stick out about 1/2" further than
the 456-045.

674-685 6MM Wheel Spacer, Pr. These are wheel spacers for use on MGB/MGA
or TR applications. Originally stocked to allow the 456-045 wheel to be
used on TR applications, these can be used to alleviate some clearance
problems easily.
