It is actually illegal in the UK to use these - front and rear - in
conditions that don't need them i.e. fog, falling snow, heavy spray etc. and
can incur a fine of UKP1000 per light. Not enforced though, judging by the
number of people who do it. Most front fogs even factory fitted ones are
positioned such that it is illegal to use them *without* headlights at *any*
time, but most of them seem to be wired such that can be used without
headlights. That law does seem a bit daft, since having to use headlights
in thick fog renders any fog lights pretty useless.
