You're right, it is a bad thing. Maybe. If you are careful, you might be able to remove the broken stud without even pulling the head. With a center punch, put an indent in the top of the stud. Then, carefully, use a left handed drill bit and then either the stud will come out, or you will have a hole for an easy-out (talk about a false advertising claim).
