I dimly remember my metallurgy lectures at university and I do not seem to
be able to work this one out. Different metals in contact with each other
when a electrolyte (water will do) is present causes corrosion due to their
dissimilar potential differences. So what happens when one uses stainless
steel bolts in plain jane steel of wings (fenders) etc.? Is stainless
inactive and appears like plastic to the other metal - or do they rot the
other metal?
Any metallurgy experts out there?
