Well, some metric sizes are close enough to SAE sizes to get by. For
instance, 19mm is close enough to 3/4 inch to use the same socket. I suspect
that was the case on the dash. The real size was 11/32 or some such uncommon
size, and the closest wrench you had on hand was metric.
I bet if you measured the thread pitch you would get SAE, or BSF.
