That's one of the scares that lead to the death of Abingdon, and the British

Oh, yeah. If it was fun, the U.S. government at one time or another tried
to ban it. It's part of the "gosh-I-just-have-to-be-SAFE-at-any-cost"
mind-set that has afflicted U.S. society since about the late 60's.
Unhappily, it's still with us, most recently manifested as the
"shoot-if-I-get-hurt-it's-got-to-be-someone-else's-fault-and-boy-am-I-going-
to-sue-the-pants-off-of-them-just-as-soon-as-my-lawyers-figure-out-who-THEY-
are" syndrome. This philosophy is, of course, closely associated with the
"I-can't-be-responsible-for-anything-bad-that-happens-to-me-so-it-MUST-be-so
meone-else's-fault-and-gosh-I-hope-they-have-deep-pockets" position.
