My Twincam race engine and street Mk 2 coupe both have red engines, but what
I have often done over the years with some of the race engines I've built is
to use 'Rebuilder's Grey', which is light enough to show oil leaks (important
in race engines!), but otherwise looks very like a raw cast iron casting
would look, if beadblasted. Looks like metal but isn't.
Something you might like to look at.
