this is in response to a question about rebuilding or
using a heritage shell. Interesting article in the
July 2002 MG World. A company in England will build
you a new MG or GT with your donor car and a Heritage
shell, left over from the RV8 build of MG's. The cost
is between 14,000 to 25,000 English pounds, and the
cost is the same for a complete rebuild of your donor
car without a shell. The time to rebuild is quicker
using a Heritage shell. As you approach the 25,000
range, this includes leather, and a V8, although I
cannot imagine anyone wanting a Rover V8. The RV8
shell was as prone to rust as the orginal MG, so no
real benifit in using a new shell. It seems much
better to find a solid MG and rebuild it from frame
up, at least from the view point of cost.
