I did some more looking and answered my own question. The green-white wire is actually green-pink (it looks white on the new harness. but my old parts car harnesses look more pink), so the wires are for the (not fitted) service interval counter (Ed: the Bentley manual has a better diagram, but it was shown even in the Haynes manual).
