A law that no one obeys is dangerous. It destroys respect for thepolice that
have to enforce the law, and the lawmakers that enact the law.
Traffic laws are supposed to be made for traffic safety reasons, not financial
gain.
In Illinois there is a fight between the municipalities and the county/ state
over a type of ticket. These tickets have a fine paid to the municipality,
with no part of the fine going to the state or county. In adddition, these
citations are not reported to the state. Also, in Illinois, it is common for
a driver who gets a minor citation, to be fined and given court supervision.
In this case, the citation is also not reported to the state. It seems to me
that financial gain seems to be the motivation, not safety.
This kind of shenanigans destroys respect for law enforcement, and encourages
unsafe driving, at the ultimate deteriment to everyone.
