Connect another tach to the white/black at your existing tach for voltage
pulse types i.e. 73 model year on. For current pulse types connect it to
the distributor lead on the coil, but there could still be problems in the
white feed to the coil that comes via the tach. However these are likely to
cause misfiring and/or cutting out so if it isn't doing this you can
discount that potential problem. There is said to be a potentiometer in the
tach but I have never looked. A sport coil should make absolutely no
difference at all - unless it is bad which is likely to cause misfiring and
an erratic tach.
