to fail is within two weeks of installation.
The reason appears to be some kind of contamination getting on the point
surface between manufacture and installation. This contamination can cause
intermittant points conductivity.
The contamination may be due to shipping environment, storage environment or
even the packing materials.
I do recomend that before installation of a new pump it would be a really
good idea to clean the contacts thoroughly to prevent any problems. It's a
lot easier to do this before installation, than having to pull the unit to
fix or replace it later.
The piece of card idea, would seem to be an easy way to accomplish this.
