The engine does not alway sputter before it dies if it runs out of fuel. When this happens the next time, disconnect the fuel line and turn on the ignittion (don't smoke while doing this) and see if fuel come out. I'm still leaning toward an ignition problem. Check the wiring for broken or cracked insulation that may be shorting out. I still think the ignition module is going.
