Interesting.  I never had any trouble seeing the gauges on my '68.
I guess at the time I owned it, it was new enough that I didn't
need to be rooting around behind the dash much.  :-)  Although
I did need to replace the oil pressure gauge at one time.  Oh well,
aesthetics are a personal issue.  Personally, I've always found
it attractive.  But my judgement may be clouded by the fact that it
was my first car.  I painted it BRG.  It was a very beautiful car.
