On my factory V8 35D8 the adjuster sticking out the side of the body only
alters the dwell if you are turning the shaft clockwise as you look on its
free end.  When you turn it anti-clockwise it just unscrews, you have to
push on the end of the shaft to move the points.  Just take the cap off and
watch what happens while you turn it.  But when you alter the dwell it
alters the timing, and that is what alters the revs, which implies the dwell
*is* being altered but it isn't showing on your meter.  It should be 26-28
degrees.  The dwell meter has to be connected to the points-side of the coil
and ground.
