Marc,
Check the numbers on the distributor and replace the vacuum advance
mechanism. It should make a difference in your acceleration. Check the
Moss catalog for the various combinations. Your car will run without the
vacuum advance, but it will run better with a working model. In the MGB -14
edition its on page 140.

Subject: problem w/ 25D distributor
Good Morning -
I was a bit suspicious about that rusty looking dashpot on the
side of my disty, and thought I ought to have more pick up than
I do. I pulled the cap off to see if the vacuum advance mechanism
was frozen, but it moved freely. I hooked a hand vacuum pump up
to it, but got no movement. In fact, I couldn't even draw a
vacuum. It's not the hose, so it must be the dashpot.
Can I repair/replace the dashpot, or should I be looking to
replace the whole assembly? I have no experience with distributors,
other than changing points, etc...
As always, I appreciate the advice provided by the members of
this list!
